Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Edge Higher Premarket Thursday

09:16 AM EDT, 05/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks edged higher premarket Thursday as the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was up 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) advanced by 1%.

Shopify ( SHOP ) shares were down more than 5% after the company reported a wider Q1 net loss.

Tapestry (TPR) shares rose past 9% after the company reported higher fiscal Q3 adjusted earnings and net sales and raised its fiscal 2025 outlook.

Somnigroup International ( SGI ) shares fell 6% after the company reported a decline in Q1 adjusted earnings and lower-than-expected net sales.
