Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Lean Lower Pre-Bell Monday

09:17 AM EDT, 06/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were down pre-bell Monday, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) down 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) 0.2% lower recently.

Walt Disney ( DIS ) was up more than 1% after saying its Pixar Animation Studios film "Inside Out 2" generated $155 million at US box offices over the weekend, describing it as the biggest opening of 2024 thus far and the second-biggest animated opening after Pixar's 2018 "Incredibles 2."

Polestar (PSNY) was up more than 4% after saying it is expanding retail operations amid a new sales model being implemented across Europe, and that it expects to enter seven new markets in 2025.

Coca-Cola (KO) and Starbucks ( SBUX ) have submitted applications for re-registration of trademarks in Russia, multiple news outlets reported, citing documents on the Russian intellectual property agency Rospatent's website. Coca-Cola was 0.2% lower and Starbucks ( SBUX ) was down 0.1% pre-bell.
