Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed Premarket Monday

09:13 AM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed premarket Monday, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) down 0.1% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) 0.4% higher.

Alibaba's ( BABA ) cloud unit led a 1 billion Chinese renminbi ($140.2 million) funding round for X Square Robot, Bloomberg reported, citing a statement from the Chinese robotics startup. Shares of Alibaba Group Holding ( BABA ) were up more than 3% pre-bell.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings ( NCLH ) stock was down more than 2% after the company said its NCL subsidiary plans to offer $1.03 billion in senior notes due 2031 and 2033 via a private offering.

Playboy (PLBY) shares were up more than 3% after the company said it has won an arbitration case against its former licensee, New Handong Investment, and has been awarded about $81 million in damages, including interest.
