Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed Premarket Thursday

09:10 AM EDT, 09/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed premarket Thursday, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) 0.1% lower and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) up 0.8%.

American Eagle Outfitters ( AEO ) shares were up more than 26% after the company reported higher fiscal Q2 earnings.

Amazon.com ( AMZN ) said it had completed the acquisition of Indian digital lending and checkout finance provider, Axio, after receiving regulatory approval from the Reserve Bank of India. Amazon.com ( AMZN ) stock was up more than 2% pre-bell.

G-III Apparel ( GIII ) shares were down more than 1% after the company posted lower fiscal Q2 non-GAAP earnings and net sales, and cut its fiscal 2026 net sales guidance.
