01:12 PM EDT, 03/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Semtech ( SMTC ) said Tuesday its new FiberEdge chipset, designed to help cable operators transition to optical modules for long-distance transmission, are now available for sampling.

The company said the chipset will enable cable operators to move to 100Gbps ZR Coherent-lite optical modules from 10Gbps, boosting their bandwidth and supporting the rollout of advanced 5G and 6G networks.

Semtech ( SMTC ) expects the transition to begin next year and last over the next decade.

Semtech ( SMTC ) shares climbed nearly 11% in recent trading.
