06:26 AM EDT, 03/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- SmartCentres Real Estate Investment Trust (SRU-UN.TO) after markets closed on Friday said it is further extending arrangements with Penguin Group.

The company said that the parties have agreed to further extend the existing agreements to April 16, 2026 "for the reasons previously set out" and allow additional time for the agreements to be finalized.

"We anticipate the good faith negotiations to result in mutually acceptable arrangements," it added.

The REIT said the independent committee of its board, composed entirely of independent trustees, is overseeing the discussions on its behalf with Penguin and Mitchell Goldhar.

Shares in the REIT were up 0.8% last Friday.
