08:08 AM EDT, 08/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- South Korean regulators have decided to postpone a decision on a request from Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) to export map data on the country, Reuters and The Korea Herald reported Friday.
The National Geographic Information Institute delayed its decision by 60 days to give Google ( GOOG ) time to address security concerns, the reports said, citing a statement from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to The Korea Herald, the regulator was supposed to issue its decision by Monday and officials said the extension was requested by Google ( GOOG ).
Google ( GOOG ) said Tuesday it is in talks with South Korean authorities over "ways to obscure sensitive facilities" in the country from Google Maps' satellite imagery and that it plans to continue consulting with the government.
Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
