10:47 AM EDT, 08/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Southern's (SO) Georgia Power subsidiary said Thursday it has identified four locations for 500 megawatts of new battery energy storage systems authorized by the Georgia Public Service Commission earlier this year.
The company said the locations are a 128-megawatt facility adjacent to the Robins Air Force Base in Bibb County, a 49.5-megawatt facility adjacent to Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes County, a 57.5-megawatt facility in Floyd County and a 265-megawatt facility in Cherokee County.
The projects will serve as dispatchable capacity resources that will provide customers with electricity for the winter of 2026/2027, the firm said.
