Southwest Airlines Applies for Permit to Fly More International Routes
May 26, 2025 8:01 AM

02:51 PM EDT, 05/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) has asked the US Department of Transportation for a permit to fly more international routes, according to the company's filing with the agency on Tuesday.

The company is requesting expedited permission to transport "persons, property and mail" to all countries with which the US has an Open Skies agreement, as well as any country that enters into an aviation agreement with the US in the future, according to the filing.

The filing was "not necessarily indicative of anything forthcoming," a Southwest ( LUV ) spokesperson told MT Newswires via email on Wednesday. The company is "taking advantage of the DOT's streamlined regulatory procedures for international authority," the spokesperson added.
