09:27 AM EDT, 06/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration after one of its passenger jets suffered damage due to a rare phenomenon known as a Dutch roll.

Southwest ( LUV ) flight N8825Q, a Boeing ( BA ) 737 carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, was traveling from Phoenix to Oakland on May 25 when it experienced a Dutch roll, according to the incident's preliminary report available on the FAA website. The aircraft "regained control but post flight inspection revealed damage to the standby [Power Control Unit]," the report added.

"The FAA is working closely with the NTSB and Boeing ( BA ) to investigate this event. We will take appropriate action based on the findings," the FAA told MT Newswires in an emailed response.

Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) and Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
