06:47 AM EDT, 04/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) flight lost an engine cover during takeoff on Sunday because of a maintenance issue, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board Jennifer Homendy told reporters on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

Homendy said following a meeting with Senators that the board has decided not to open a formal investigation into the Denver incident involving a Boeing ( BA ) 737-800. She said Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) is "addressing" the issue.

A Federal Aviation Administration probe of the incident continues. No one was injured in the mishap.
