Southwest Airlines Pilots Missed Notice Before Closed Runway Takeoff
Jul 16, 2024 4:59 AM

07:37 AM EDT, 07/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) pilots missed a warning to avoid a certain runway for safety reasons during a June 25 departure from Portland, Maine, government investigators said.

Flight 4805 took off from the closed runway 29 despite a warning not to use it. The flight crew reviewed a packet of notices and warnings, spotted a notice that the runway would be closed during certain times on Saturdays and Sundays but missed an item restricting its use during certain weekday hours, the National Transportation Safety Board said.

All 136 passengers and crew arrived safely at the plane's destination in Baltimore. Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the NTSB are investigating the incident, according to a statement.
