SpiceJet may operate grounded Jet aircraft, says report
Mar 18, 2019 1:49 AM

Lessors of the debt-laden Jet Airways are in talks with SpiceJet to lease out Jet's grounded aircraft to the latter, Business Standard reported.

Lessors to the Jet Airways' GE Capital Aviation Services and BOC Aviation are in talks with SpiceJet who is looking to secure used aircraft to maintain its expansion plans after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grounded 13 of SpiceJet's aircraft after the deadly Ethiopian Airlines crash, the report added.

"Lessors to the Jet Airways have discussed with SpiceJet to place their aircraft with the latter. SpiceJet wants 12-13 planes. Depending on the duration of the 737 MAX grounding, it may take more," a person familiar with the development told Business Standard.

Naresh Goyal-promoted Jet Airways' lessors have grounded almost 50 aircraft amid the failure of payments by the company. It has been five months since Jet paid its lessors, the report added.
