07:49 AM EDT, 07/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Spire Global ( SPIR ) said Monday that it has been awarded a 1.4 million Canadian dollars ($1 million) contract by the Canadian government to provide global automatic identification system, or AIS, ship tracking data.
The contract has a duration of one year with options for two additional years, raising the contract's total potential value to approximately CA$4.2 million, Spire Global ( SPIR ) said.
Under the contract, Spire Global ( SPIR ) will share real-time global ship tracking data as well as provide historical AIS data and AIS position validation capabilities, according to the company.
Within the Canadian government, the data will be used by the Canadian Space Agency, the Department of National Defense, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Coast Guard, Spire Global ( SPIR ) said.
