10:58 AM EDT, 05/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Spirit Airlines ( SAVE ) expects to start 2025 with over 40 on-the-ground aircraft due to Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan engine availability issues and to end the year with about 70 aircraft on the ground, Chief Commercial Officer Matthew Klein said, according to a Capital IQ transcript of the company's first-quarter earnings call.

"Again, this is a fluid situation," Klein said. "So this is just our baseline estimate for now, and at this point, it does not include any potential mitigation effort from Pratt & Whitney that could improve the forecast."
