03:55 PM EDT, 06/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Spotify ( SPOT ) is separating its audiobook and music offerings to let subscribers save money and possibly defuse some recent criticism.
The audio streaming company on Friday introduced its new basic subscription for $10.99 monthly charge for eligible users for ad-free music-only content. The move follows the company's "premium" plan combining ad-free music with up to 15 hours per month of audiobooks for $11.99 per month.
The National Music Publishers' Association filed a complaint on June 12 with Federal Trade Commission accusing Spotify ( SPOT ) of "unfair and deceptive" conduct by forcing users into the higher cost bundled subscription plans that are difficult to cancel.
Spotify ( SPOT ) rejected the accusations, asserting its expanded subscription plans provide "incredible value" and that it gives subscribers at least one month's notice of any price changes and allows for "easy cancellations."
