11:39 AM EDT, 04/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Spotify Technology ( SPOT ) said Thursday that Apple ( AAPL ) rejected its application update featuring "basic pricing and website information" for users in the European Union.
The audio streaming company said that the information is the "bare minimum" required by the European Commission ruling in its music streaming case.
"Apple ( AAPL ) has once again defied the European Commission's decision, rejecting our update for attempting to communicate with customers about our prices unless we pay Apple ( AAPL ) a new tax," a Spotify ( SPOT ) spokesperson said in a statement to MT Newswires. "Their disregard for consumers and developers is matched only by their disdain for the law."
Apple ( AAPL ) provided MT Newswires with its message to Spotify ( SPOT ) regarding the app review submission.
In the message, Apple ( AAPL ) said that Spotify's ( SPOT ) submission includes a call to buy a subscription on the Spotify ( SPOT ) website.
"As such, you must accept the terms of the Music Streaming Services Entitlement and include the entitlement profile in your app for submission," Apple ( AAPL ) told Spotify ( SPOT ). "To be clear, this entitlement is required even if your app does not include an external link (nor does it require that you offer an external link)."
Apple ( AAPL ) said that it will approve version 8.9.33 of the app after Spotify ( SPOT ) accepts the terms and resubmits it for review.
Spotify ( SPOT ) shares rose 1% in recent Thursday trading, and Apple ( AAPL ) dropped 0.3%.
