01:17 PM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- STAAR Surgical ( STAA ) said Thursday that it has adjourned its Oct. 23 special stockholders meeting in relation to its merger agreement with Alcon ( ALC ) .

The meeting is rescheduled to take place on Nov. 6, STAAR said.

The adjournment follows opposition from proxy advisers and major shareholders, including Broadwood Partners, who said Monday it is recommending shareholders vote against the proposed tie-up. Broadwood Partners is STAAR Surgical's ( STAA ) largest shareholder with about a 27% stake, according to Reuters.

STAAR Surgical ( STAA ) shares rose 5% in recent Thursday trading, and Alcon ( ALC ) was up 0.4%.
