Startup Street: Deciphering WhatsApp's new privacy policy
Jan 8, 2021 11:37 AM

Facebook backed messaging platform Whatsapp's take it or leave it privacy policy and terms of services hasn't gone down too well with many internet users including Tesla, SpaceX and the Elon Musk who yesterday tweeted, "Use Signal" which is a non-profit run encrypted messaging application.

Ever since this debate has sparked on the internet, messaging platforms like Telegram and Signal is witnessing a huge boost and downloads.

Whatsapp started rolling out its new privacy policy and the biggest takeaway is the fact that going forward Whatsapp will share all the information collected with Facebook and its subsidiaries.

An in-app notification alerted users that in order to continue using the app, the only choice that they have is to accept the new terms which will come into force by February 8 2021 and if you don't like it you can delete your account.

To discuss what is really irking users with this new policy, Startup Street spoke to Prabhu Ram of CyberMedia Research.

Also watch Startup Street in conversation with Mayur Shetty, CEO of Blackfrog Technologies - a Manipal-based startup, which has been in discussions with the government to deploy its cold chain vaccine delivery product when the COVID vaccination drives begins.
