Stellantis Cutting More Than 2,500 Jobs in Italy, Auto Workers' Union Says
Mar 26, 2024 10:32 AM

01:03 PM EDT, 03/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Stellantis ( STLA ) plans to eliminate more than 2,500 jobs at three Italian factories, according to a statement on Tuesday by the union representing the automaker's employees in Italy.

Stellantis ( STLA ) will cut around 1,560 positions in Turin plus another 850 jobs in Cassino and 100 layoffs at its Pratola Serra facility, according to a statement Tuesday by the Italian Federation of Metalworkers, better known as FIOM.

"The situation at Stellantis' ( STLA ) plants in Italy is clearly worsening," FIOM said in its statement. The union criticized the car company for seeking government supports and other financial incentives to fund its transition to electric vehicle production without committing to any job protections.

The company confirmed the job cuts without specifying a number in a statement to Bloomberg, which first reported the company's plans. Stellantis ( STLA ) did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment from MT Newswires on Tuesday.

Stellantis ( STLA ) shares recently were down about 2% in US trading this afternoon.
