12:05 PM EDT, 09/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Stellantis ( STLA ) is facing a one-day strike in Italy on Oct. 18 called by Italian unions to protest falling production in the country.

"Faced with the dramatic situation that Stellantis ( STLA ) workers and the entire automotive supply chain have been experiencing...we could not remain still and silently watch the industrial desertification of our country," Rocco Palombella, general secretary of the Uilm union, said Tuesday.

Uilm, together with the Fim and Fiom unions, have called for "a national strike for the entire sector," on Oct. 18, Palombella said.

Stellantis ( STLA ), Fim and Fiom did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
