Stellantis Urged by White House to Keep Promise of Production Expansion in US
Oct 17, 2024 2:03 PM

05:48 PM EDT, 10/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Stellantis ( STLA ) was strongly urged by the White House on Wednesday to follow through on its pledge to unionized workers to return jobs to US already hit by plant closures rather than expand to Mexico or other countries.

"We want to see Stellantis ( STLA ) deliver on those commitments to the UAW," White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said during her daily news briefing. Contract terms negotiated last year between the United Auto Workers and the company committing it "to reopen and expand production" at some of its shuttered factories, she said.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Stellantis ( STLA ) may instead expand one of its facilities in northern Mexico and shift some production of its popular Ram pickup truck from Michigan to Mexico.

In a statement to the newspaper, Stellantis ( STLA ) said it would continue to build Ram trucks in Michigan, adding that no other announcements about production of the Ram truck have been disclosed.

Stellantis ( STLA ) did not respond to a message from MT newswires seeking comment on Wednesday.
