Streaming Surpasses Combined Cable, Broadcast Viewing for First Time in May, Nielsen Reports

10:05 AM EDT, 06/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Streaming platforms reached a record 44.8% of total television usage in May, outpacing the combined share of broadcast and cable for the first time ever, Nielsen said Tuesday.

Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) YouTube ( GOOG ) led the streamers at 12.5% of all TV viewing, followed by Netflix ( NFLX ) with a 7.5% share and Walt Disney ( DIS ) with 5.0%. Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Prime Video notched 3.5%, while Roku ( ROKU ) garnered 2.5% and Paramount Global's ( PARAA ) Paramount+ and Fox's (FOX) Tubi tied with 2.2% each. Warner Bros. Discovery ( WBD ) and Comcast's ( CMCSA ) CMCSA) Peacock rounded out the list at 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively, according to Nielsen.
