Surf Air Mobility Shares Rise After Completion of Ultra Short Aircraft Demonstrations
Aug 13, 2025 7:13 AM

09:56 AM EDT, 08/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Surf Air Mobility ( SRFM ) shares were up over 20% early Wednesday after the company and partner Electra.aero said that a first public demonstration of Electra's ultra short aircraft was completed earlier in August at Virginia Tech.

The demonstration showcased the aircraft's takeoff and landing capabilities in 150 feet or less in an urban environment, Surf Air said, adding it did not operate the demonstration flights.

Electra said the demonstrations were undertaken in several places at the university, including a 300-foot by 75-foot paved surface used by unmanned aircraft systems for takeoff and landing, and a grass field.

Electra said its EL9 nine-passenger aircraft, which is expected to reach commercially service in 2029, will feature similar capabilities.
