05:54 AM EDT, 07/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Suzano (SUZ) said Monday it launched a new mill in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, which it says is the world's largest single-line pulp production facility.
The company said the plant will produce 2.55 million tonnes of eucalyptus pulp annually, boosting its overall capacity by over 20% to 13.5 million tonnes annually.
The project, costing 22.2 billion Brazilian real ($3.96 billion), includes 15.9 billion Brazilian real for plant construction and 6.3 billion Brazilian real for initiatives like expanding the planting base and improving pulp logistics.
It added that the mill can also manufacture 1.5 million tonnes of paper annually, including sanitary, printing, writing and packaging products.
The facility will generate about 180 MW of surplus green energy monthly from renewable biomass, enough to power a city of up to 2 million people, the company said, adding it will also be self-sufficient in producing sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide.
