Talen Energy Evaluates Options After Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Rejects Amended Service Agreement
Nov 4, 2024 11:34 AM

04:42 AM EST, 11/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Talen Energy ( TLN ) said Sunday that the company is evaluating its options following an order from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Friday rejecting an amended Susquehanna Interconnection Service Agreement with PHM Interconnection and PPL Electric Utilities.

"Talen believes FERC erred and we are evaluating our options, with a focus on commercial solutions," the company said. "FERC's decision will have a chilling effect on economic development in states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey."

The proposed amendment would increase the co-located load capacity at Talen's Susquehanna nuclear power generation facility to 480 megawatts from 300 megawatts.

However, the company said that the existing agreement that allows for 300 megawatts of co-located load at Susquehanna can sustain the development of the first phases of the Amazon (AMZN) Web Services data center campus as the company continues to pursue approval of an amended deal.

"We believe this [Interconnection Service Agreement] amendment is just and reasonable and in the best interest of consumers," the company said.
