Tapping water: VA Tech Wabag aims to ride 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ initiative
Dec 14, 2020 4:35 AM

The government of India’s ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ initiative aims to provide piped water connections to households by 2024 and this has opened new opportunities.

“The government has gone on record that there will be no cut on the spending in this particular scheme even if there is a slowdown in the economy,” said Rajneesh Chopra, Global Head-Business Development at VA Tech Wabag, a company focused on water treatment for municipal and industrial users.

Speaking in an interview to CNBC-TV18, Chopra said that there are several opportunities in pipeline distribution and house connections.

“Since the water demand is likely to go up, so when source augmentation is required and where technology is involved, VA Tech will participate. We have a huge coastal line. We will see an opportunity in desalination, there is an opportunity in treating the water wherever it is available and transporting it to various locations. Therefore, we see that we will play a significant role at that point of time,” he said.

On the order book front, he said, “We have around Rs 10,500 crore worth of backlog as of September end and out of that around 70 percent is EPC and 30 percent is operation and maintenance.”
