06:07 AM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Target ( TGT ) is planning to lay off around 1,000 corporate employees and eliminate about 800 open positions, reducing its workforce by around 8%, news outlets reported Thursday, citing an internal memo.
The reductions are focused on corporate employees in the US, Barron's reported.
"The truth is, the complexity we've created over time has been holding us back," Chief Operating Officer Michael Fiddelke wrote in a memo cited by the news outlets. "Too many layers and overlapping work have slowed decisions, making it harder to bring ideas to life."
Fiddelke, who is slated to take over as chief executive in February, was cited by the Associated Press as saying more information about the layoffs would be released on Tuesday.
Target ( TGT ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
