Target to Face Shareholder Lawsuit Over 2023 Pride Month Campaign
Dec 5, 2024 4:24 AM

07:14 AM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Target ( TGT ) and its board are set to face a shareholder's lawsuit related to its 2023 Pride Month marketing campaign after a US judge denied the company's motion to dismiss the case, according to a court document released Wednesday.

Brian Craig, a shareholder of Target ( TGT ), filed the suit, claiming that the company misled shareholders by "falsely stating or omitting" the possible negative responses to its Pride campaign in May 2023, which displayed Pride-related merchandise "at the front and center" of Target ( TGT ) stores in the US.

In the lawsuit, Craig claimed that the campaign led to customer backlash and a boycott that weighed on Target's ( TGT ) sales and stock price.

Target ( TGT ) moved for the lawsuit's dismissal but US District Judge John Badalamenti denied the motion and ruled that the plaintiffs had presented sufficient information to support their claim.

Target ( TGT ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
