06:35 AM EDT, 06/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Taseko Mines ( TGB ) ratified a three-year collective agreement with members of the Unifor trade union, ending a strike at the Gibraltar mine in British Columbia.
The new contract with Unifor Local 3018 increases wages by 13% over three years, introduces a Women's Advocate in the workplace and recognizes the federal labor code's leave for Indigenous practices, the trade union said. The contract also adds clarity and "fairness" to the drug testing incident procedure and additional transparency during the discipline process, according to the union.
"Unifor members in Williams Lake have successfully negotiated a collective agreement that reflects their important contribution to the success of Taseko," said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
Taseko owns and operates the Gibraltar copper-molybdenum mine, the second largest open-pit copper mine in Canada and the largest employer in the Cariboo region. Local 3018 represents 550 workers at the copper mine north of Williams Lake.
