Tata Steel says fire at Port Talbot plant under control, no serious injuries

Tata Steel said fires at its Port Talbot plant, in Wales, UK, were under control and there have not been any serious injuries. At least three blasts were reported at Tata Steelworks plant in Port Talbot, Wales in the United Kingdom, according to various media reports in the UK.

South Wales Police department said they are aware of an incident in TATA Steelworks plant. "Emergency services are in attendance and further information will be released shortly. Thank you for your patience," said the department in a tweet.

The police said they received calls at 3:35 AM reporting an explosion at the plant. "At this time we there are just two casualties with minor injuries.

South Wales Police department has asked people to avoid the area as the incident is ongoing and emergency services are at the spot investigating the matter.

The Port Talbot site, which dates back to the early 1900s, was acquired by Tata Steel as part of its acquisition of Corus in 2007, reported Reuters.

Tata Steel said all fires are now under control and that no serious injuries were reported the plant.

People living nearby the plant called the police after the explosions shook housed and knocked people over.

More than 4,000 people work at Tata Steel plant, which is at the heart of the local economy, reported The Sun.

"There was a long compression and a sound like a jet was about to pass. Then three shocks came and shook the doors and windows,” The Daily Star quoted an anonymous Twitter user as saying.
