TD appoints Taylan Turan as chief operating officer ahead of investor day
Sep 10, 2025 2:12 PM

Sept 10 (Reuters) - TD Bank on Wednesday named

Taylan Turan as chief operating officer along with a slew of

executive appointments, ahead of its investor day in September

where the Canadian lender is likely to provide strategic clarity

after a tumultuous period of regulatory challenges.

Turan will take over the role held by CEO Raymond Chun,

until his accelerated rise to the top job in February.

The bank is undergoing a significant transformation as it

complies with a U.S. government mandated anti-money laundering

remediation program, which followed a historic $3 billion

penalty for systemic lapses.

TD expedited the exit of CEO Bharat Masrani in January and

slashed his annual pay, with Chun stepping into the role on

February 1, two months ahead of schedule.

Turan, an industry veteran, will move from London to Toronto

as he joins Canada's second largest bank after more than 16

years with HSBC, where he was the CEO of retail banking.

Most recently, Turan led HSBC's efforts to reshape its

international wealth and premier banking business.

Turan will join TD on September 29 and will be responsible

for improving client experience and accelerating growth, the

bank said.

Simon Fish will join as general counsel effective September

15, the bank said, as current counsel Jane Langford seeks other

opportunities.

TD also announced the appointment of 37-year company veteran

Paul Whitehead as global head of client and colleague experience

and marketing, effective December 1. Whitehead will report to

Turan.

In July, the bank named independent director John MacIntyre

as the new chair of its board.

So far this year, TD's shares have gained nearly 38%, while

the benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index has risen 18%.
