08:46 AM EST, 02/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- TELUS ( TU ) announced Thursday the successful deployment and commissioning of its nearly 125-kilometer submarine fibre optic cable connecting Sept-Iles to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.
The company said this critical infrastructure, deployed and buried in the seabed of the St. Lawrence River, provides "essential redundancy" to the telecommunications network serving communities east of Baie-Comeau. The project was made possible through a joint investment of more than $20 million from TELUS ( TU ) and the Government of Canada.
"As extreme weather and climate-related emergencies are becoming increasingly frequent, TELUS' ( TU ) infrastructure will ensure that citizens, businesses and institutions in the region receive reliable access to essential services," said TELUS ( TU ) chief executive Darren Entwistle.
U.S.-listed shares of the company were last seen down 1.7% at US$14.04 in pre-market trading.
