06:29 AM EDT, 03/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) buyers in Canada will no longer be eligible for electric vehicle rebates following an order by Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland, news outlets reported Tuesday.

Canada has frozen C$43 million ($30.1 million) in current rebate payments for Tesla vehicles and barred Trump administration appointee Elon Musk's company from future incentives over "illegitimate and illegal US tariffs" imposed on Canada, according to an emailed statement by Freeland cited by Reuters and other news outlets.

Tesla and the Transport Ministry did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
