Tesla Launches Robotaxis in Austin, Texas, Test
Jun 23, 2025 2:18 AM

04:49 AM EDT, 06/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) deployed a limited fleet of self-driving taxis in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, according to Chief Executive Elon Musk and social media influencers who posted videos of their first rides on X.

"Culmination of a decade of hard work," Musk said in a social media post. "Both the AI chip and software teams were built from scratch within Tesla."

The electric vehicle maker planned a trial of around 10 vehicles and front-seat riders acting as safety monitors, Reuters reported, adding that it was unclear how much control they had over the vehicles.

Tesla shares were up 1.7% in recent premarket activity Monday.
