10:40 AM EDT, 03/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) is providing a free, one-month trial of the latest model of its driver-assist system to owners of its new electric vehicles, CEO Elon Musk said late Monday.
"All US cars that are capable of FSD (Full Self-Driving) will be enabled for a one-month trial this week," Musk said in post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, overnight.
Tesla began testing its FSD v12.3 platform with non-employee drivers earlier this month, to largely positive reviews. The company is expecting to eventually offer the driver-assist program either for a one-time payment of $12,000 or through a $199-a-month subscription model, according to multiple reports.
Tesla has long touted its driver-assist platforms but also has struggled fine-tuning it for roads. The company began a voluntary recall of its Autosteer platform and Autopilot Hardware systems late last year, providing Tesla owners with an over-the-air software fix after determining "the prominence and scope of the feature's controls may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse."
