12:57 PM EDT, 08/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) is recalling 9,136 2016 Model X SUVs because of a possible roof defect that might heighten the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The Model X's front and spine roof appliques, adhered with urethane, may detach over time if the adhesive lacks primer, the NHTSA said in a statement.
Tesla Service will inspect affected vehicles, performing an improved retention test using a minimum of 120N of force. If the applique passes, no further action is needed; if it fails, Tesla will reattach or replace it with the correct primer and urethane.
Customer notification letters will be sent on Oct. 14, and Tesla will inspect and reattach roof appliques free of charge for owners. according to the statement.
Tesla didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
