10:47 AM EDT, 05/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) filed an infringement lawsuit against Indian battery maker Tesla Power for trademark infringement in using the US company's name to promote products, several media outlets reported Friday.

A court hearing on the case was held in New Delhi this week with the electric-vehicle maker seeking damages and a permanent injunction against Tesla Power, the reports said.

Tesla said the Indian company's use of the brand name caused confusion among consumers, while Tesla Power argued it does not intend to make electric vehicles, according to the reports.

Tesla did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment, while the Indian company could not be reached for comment.
