03:16 PM EDT, 08/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) has been ordered by a jury to pay over $200 million in punitive damages in a ruling concerning a fatal 2019 accident linked to its Autopilot driver-assistance technology, the Associated Press and other outlets reported Friday.
The automaker was found partly liable for the car crash that occurred in Key Largo, Florida, which killed a pedestrian and left another person severely injured when a Tesla vehicle ran through a stop sign and an intersection in Autopilot-mode before crashing into a parked vehicle, the reports said.
Tesla's lawyers said the company plans to appeal the verdict, according to reports.
The company didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares were down nearly 2% in recent afternoon trading.
