12:30 PM EDT, 06/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) has been removed from the Charlotte City Council's list of approved vehicle manufacturers over alleged safety issues, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
The 11-member council of the North Carolinian city voted 6-3 Monday in favor of removing the company from a list of approved vendors, the reports said. Charlotte City currently has 15 Tesla electric vehicles and is looking to purchase 45 more EVs, according to WCNC.
"When we are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and putting our employees out in these vehicles, and we are using tax dollars to do it, we also have the opportunity to think about the investments we are making on behalf of our citizens," WCNC quoted Council member LaWana Mayfield as saying.
Tesla did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
