05:56 AM EDT, 10/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk and Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) are facing a lawsuit for allegedly using imagery from the 2017 movie "Blade Runner 2049" in a recent event even after permission was denied, a court filing showed Monday.
Hollywood studio Alcon Entertainment alleged that Musk used the concept of a fully autonomous futuristic car that was featured in the movie to endorse Tesla's new fully autonomous Cybercab, despite having no official partnership, according to the filing.
Alcon alleged that Musk and Warner Bros., which hosted the unveiling event for the Cybercab, only reached out for permission to use certain images from the film on the day of the Oct. 10 event. The studio specifically declined to grant permission to use the images, the lawsuit said.
"Any prudent brand considering any Tesla partnership has to take Musk's massively amplified, highly politicized, capricious and arbitrary behavior, which sometimes veers into hate speech, into account," the lawsuit said.
Tesla and Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
