Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport saw the highest number of passengers in the last year, according to the data released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The Delhi airport is followed by Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Here are the 10 busiest airports in the country
1: Securing the top position in the list is Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The airport in the national capital handled over 6.92 crore passengers during the last financial year.
2: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai follows the IGI in second. The airport in India’s financial capital handled over 4.88 crore passengers.
3: Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, is the only commercial airport in Karnataka’s capital. The airport handled over 3.33 crore passengers during the period.
4: At fourth spot comes the Chennai International Airport. The airport in Tamil Nadu's capital city handled over 2.25 crore passengers.
5: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata, with a total footprint of over 2.18 crore came fifth.
6: At the sixth spot is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, located in Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The city, better known as a tech hub, handled well over 2.147 crore passengers.
7: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, came at the seventh spot with over 1.11 crore passengers. (Facebook)
8: At the eighth spot is the Cochin International Airport. The airport in the coastal city of Kochi in Kerala handled over 1.01 crore passengers.
9: Pune International Airport handled over 90 lakh passengers to rank ninth in the list.
10: Dabolim Airport or Goa Airport is the only international airport in the tourist hub of Goa. The airport secured the tenth spot after handling over 84 lakh passengers.
