Thunderbird Entertainment Group Developing Surf's Up Animated Series
Sep 25, 2025 1:11 PM

03:44 PM EDT, 09/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Thunderbird Entertainment Group ( THBRF ) on Thursday said Atomic Cartoons, its animation studio arm, is developing "Surf's Up: The Series", a new animated comedy based on the Sony Pictures film "Surf's Up".

The series is being written and show-run by Lienne Sawatsky, Dan Williams, and John Hazlett, with Jennifer Twiner McCarron, Joel Bradley, and Aaron Behl serving as executive producers and Kitty Walsh as co-executive producer. Sony's Rick Mischel will also act as executive producer for the title.

Intended for children aged 6-9, each episode will run about 11 minutes and follow a confident teen penguin named Flip as he teams up with a group of quirky surfers in pursuit of becoming a surf legend. Thunderbird said the show will be marketed globally, with the goal of securing distribution partners and consumer-product deals.

"We're excited to be partnering with Atomic and their long history of bringing great intellectual property to series animation. Surf's Up is iconic and we look forward to a whole new audience getting to know these characters," Executive Producer Rick Mischel said.

Shares of Thunderbird Entertainment Group ( THBRF ) were last seen down $0.01 to $1.49 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
