11:10 AM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- T-Mobile US' ( TMUS ) third-quarter results topped Wall Street's estimates as the wireless network operator reported stronger-than-expected postpaid phone subscriber additions.
The wireless network operator's earnings fell to $2.41 per share for the September quarter from $2.61 a year earlier, but surpassed the FactSet-polled consensus of $2.40. Revenue grew 8.9% to $21.96 billion, ahead of analysts' $21.91 billion view.
Total service revenue rose 9.1% year over year to $18.24 billion, including postpaid growth of nearly 12% to $14.88 billion.
"We had our all time best postpaid customer account growth," Chief Operating Officer Srini Gopalan, who will succeed Mike Sievert as T-Mobile chief executive next month, said during an earnings call, according to a FactSet transcript. "What I like is how broad based this growth is."
The company added about 1 million postpaid phone subscribers in the quarter, up from 865,000 in the prior-year quarter and above the average analyst estimate for 841,700 net additions.
Postpaid net customer additions totaled 2.3 million, which surged both sequentially and annually. Postpaid phone churn, which refers to the percentage of customers who stopped using the company's services, was 0.89%, down sequentially but up year over year.
In the prepaid line of business, T-Mobile reported new customer additions of 43,000, up from 24,000 in the prior-year period. T-Mobile added 506,000 5G broadband customers on a net basis, up from 415,000 in the year-earlier quarter.
The company's shares were down 3.3% in Thursday trade.
The company now expects net customer additions under postpaid plans to be in a range of 7.2 million to 7.4 million for 2025, up from its prior outlook of 6.1 million to 6.4 million. Postpaid phone additions are now projected to be about 3.3 million, up from the previous guidance of 2.95 million to 3.1 million.
The capital expenditure outlook was increased by $500 million to about $10 billion due to the inclusion of recently acquired UScellular, Chief Financial Officer Peter Osvaldik told analysts on the call.
