12:13 PM EDT, 07/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Wall Street's major market averages were trading lower on Wednesday as investors digested the quarterly reports from tech giants Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA).

Alphabet reported late Tuesday that its Q2 earnings increased to $1.89 per diluted share from $1.44 and its revenue rose to $84.74 billion from $74.6 billion a year earlier. Alphabet shares were down 4.8% in recent Wednesday trading.

Tesla shares slid more than 10% in recent Wednesday trading after it reported late Tuesday that its Q2 non-GAAP earnings fell to $0.52 per diluted share from $0.91 a year earlier.

Visa (V) reported fiscal Q3 non-GAAP earnings late Tuesday of $2.42 per diluted share, up from $2.16 a year earlier. Net revenue was $8.90 billion, higher than the year-ago period's $8.12 billion but lower than analysts' expectations of $8.92 billion. Shares of Visa were down 4.3% in recent Wednesday trading.

Thermo Fisher Scientific ( TMO ) reported Wednesday that its fiscal Q2 adjusted earnings climbed to $5.37 per share from $5.15 and its revenue dropped to $10.54 billion from $10.69 billion a year earlier. Shares of Thermo Fisher Scientific ( TMO ) were up 3.3% in recent trading.

Boston Scientific ( BSX ) reported Q2 adjusted earnings Wednesday of $0.62 per diluted share, up from $0.53 a year earlier. Net sales were $4.12 billion, up from $3.60 billion a year earlier. Shares of Boston Scientific ( BSX ) were down 2.2% in recent trading.

T-Mobile US ( TMUS ) has agreed to form a joint venture with KKR (KKR) to acquire Metronet. Shares of T-Mobile were down 0.4% and KKR shares were up 0.1% in recent Wednesday trading.

Silgan Holdings ( SLGN ) has signed a sale and purchase agreement to acquire Weener Plastics Holdings for an enterprise value of 838 million euros ($909.8 million). Silgan ( SLGN ) shares were up 1.8% in recent Wednesday trading.

ACNB ( ACNB ) will buy Traditions Bancorp in an all-stock deal valued at $73.5 million. Shares of ACNB ( ACNB ) retreated 8.4% in recent Wednesday trading.
