12:11 PM EDT, 10/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- All three major US stock indexes were up in midday trading Monday ahead of big-name earnings this week, including those from Netflix ( NFLX ) on Tuesday and Tesla (TSLA) on Wednesday.
In company news, Apple's ( AAPL ) iPhone 17 series outsold the iPhone 16 series by 14% during the first 10 days of availability in the US and China, Counterpoint Research said Monday.
Sales of the base model iPhone 17 nearly doubled compared with the previous series in China, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is witnessing the "strongest" demand through the first two weekends of availability in the US, Counterpoint said. Apple ( AAPL ) shares were up over 4%.
Amazon ( AMZN ) Web Services appears to have suffered a major internet outage Monday, causing widespread disruption to dozens of websites, online games, and apps that the cloud service hosts, news outlets and monitoring websites reported.
Amazon Web Services' status page confirmed "significant error rates" in the US eastern region. "We continue to observe recovery across most of the affected AWS Services. We can confirm global services and features that rely on US-EAST-1 have also recovered," Amazon ( AMZN ) told MT Newswires in an emailed statement. Amazon ( AMZN ) shares were up 0.7%.
Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Waymo is under a preliminary investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration following reports that some 2,000 robotaxis may have been unable to follow traffic safety rules around stopped school buses, Reuters reported Monday, citing the NHTSA.
Waymo has "already developed and implemented improvements related to stopping for school buses and will land additional software updates in our next software release," Reuters reported, citing a company spokesperson. Waymo didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. Alphabet shares were up over 1%.
Merck ( MRK ) said Monday it has started construction of a $3 billion, 400,000-square-foot pharmaceutical manufacturing facility at its Elkton, Virginia, site.
The drugmaker also said Monday that new long-term data from a phase 3 trial of its cancer drug Keytruda showed sustained survival benefits in patients with earlier or advanced stages of non-small cell lung cancer. Merck ( MRK ) shares were up over 2%.
HBT Financial ( HBT ) and CNB Bank Shares said Monday that they have agreed to a $170.2 million cash and stock merger expected to close in Q1 2026. Under the terms of the agreement, CNB shareholders will receive either 1.0434 HBT common shares for each CNB share, or $27.73 per share in cash, or a combination of cash and stock.
Also on Monday, HBT Financial ( HBT ) reported higher adjusted earnings and operating revenue for Q3. The company's shares were up more than 3%.
