01:01 PM EDT, 07/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor ( TM ) has been cited by regulators in Japan, with a federal agency calling for "drastic reforms" at the company after a recent probe determined it failed to follow proper testing procedures for seven of its vehicle models, the company said Wednesday.
The corrective order issued by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism blames both on-site and managerial factors, including insufficient involvement by Toyota ( TM ) management in the process, for the certification lapses occurring between 2014 through 2023, the company said.
Domestic production of the company's Corolla Fielder and Axio models, along with its Yaris Cross, have been suspended since June 3 because of the certification issues but are expected to resume in early September, the company said. It also placed a temporary halt on Noah and Voxy shipments earlier this week but is expecting to resume shipment as soon as the ministry can confirm compliance with certification standards, Toyota ( TM ) said.
In addition to cases reported on June 3, the agency identified eight new ones involving seven vehicles not properly certified, including the Prius, RAV4, LM and and Harrier SUVs.
