Toyota Motor's Daihatsu Unit Reportedly Set to Resume Vehicle Development by Year-End
Apr 24, 2024 8:11 AM

10:55 AM EDT, 04/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Toyota Motor's ( TM ) Daihatsu unit is looking to fully resume vehicle development by the end of 2024, media outlets reported Wednesday, citing Daihatsu President Masahiro Inoue.

Daihatsu last year was forced to stop all vehicle shipments after it was revealed that the company rigged safety tests for about 88,000 small cars.

"Once we have bedded down measures to prevent a recurrence (of the certification issue), we would like to move forward as early as the end of the year," Inoue was quoted as saying.

Inoue also reportedly said that the company is going to focus on South America and Africa over the next decade.

Toyota Motor ( TM ) and Daihatsu did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
