Travelers Seeks Court Ruling on Google Coverage in Social Media Addiction Cases
Nov 18, 2025 5:48 PM

03:36 PM EST, 11/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Travelers (TRV) has filed a declaratory judgment action against Google ( GOOG ), Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL), and YouTube ( GOOG ) in the Delaware Superior Court.

The insurer seeks a ruling on its obligations under policies issued to Google ( GOOG ) from 2004 to 2007, court documents show.

Travelers unit St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance argues it is not required to cover claims tied to a series of suits, dubbed the "Social Media Lawsuits," that accuse Google ( GOOG ) and YouTube ( GOOG ) of fostering addictive behavior in minors, leading to emotional and physical harm, including fatalities.

According to the complaint, Travelers provided both primary and umbrella/excess coverage to Google ( GOOG ) and its predecessors. The company now asks the court to determine whether those policies extend to the alleged harms at issue.

Alphabet didn't respond immediately to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Travelers shares rose 1.3% in recent Tuesday trading, and Alphabet gained 0.5%

Price: 288.19, Change: +3.68, Percent Change: +1.29
