05:45 AM EDT, 04/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Trump administration will take steps to lessen the effects of auto tariffs by limiting duties on imported components used in American-made vehicles and preventing duplicate charges on cars manufactured abroad, multiple outlets reported Tuesday, citing a White House statement.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick reportedly said the arrangement strengthens collaboration with domestic automakers and American workers while encouraging companies that plan to invest in and expand US operations.
According to The Wall Street Journal, companies that paid existing tariffs, such as those on steel and aluminum, would not be subjected to additional levies and could be eligible for reimbursements.
A White House official confirmed the WSJ's report and said the new measures will be made official on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
The White House did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
